Happy 2014!

Happy new year, my friends!

I meant to check in yesterday and talk about finishing the streak and setting goals for 2014 and all of that other mumbo jumbo crap, but then I didn't.  Meh.  Life happens.

I still have my thoughts on the run streak percolating in my brain so I will write about that and what I learned along the way very soon.  Maybe even tomorrow if I have a chance.

Goals...well there is a whole 'nother kettle of worms.  I'm still working on them.  But I did decide to act on the biggie...today, I registered for this

I had thought about registering back at the start of December when registration opened, but then I had an epiphany.  In 2013 - the inaugural Marathon had to be cancelled due to the flood.  And nobody got refunds.   What if it happens again?  By waiting until the new year to register, I was able to claim it against my Wellness Spending Account at work to take that worry off of me.   After all - I don't have $155 kicking around to lose - who does?   My Spending Account lets me claim race fees so why not?

Now I can train and run the race, but if it gets cancelled again, at least I'm not out the money.

Besides, since I had to miss Calgary's 50th year - why not run a full - 3 weeks later - in one of the most beautiful places on earth?

I pressed the submit button - so now I have to do it :)  Wish me luck!  Guess I'd better make my first goal be "Lay out that training plan"

    1. Thanks! I'm actually really excited about it. I was so bummed about missing Calgary, but this may actually be better for me. NOw I just need to make sure my 34k isn't in Punta Cana...

  2. That looks like a great race! But dang, that's a lot of money for a 1st year race! I would shell it out if it had been running for a few years and had all of the kinks and logistics worked out.

    1. Yeah - if it wasn't being reimbursed, the cost would probably be enough to keep me away. I think it's because the field is so small for it.

  3. Love it Cori! Congratulations. That will be a lovely race and it's always good to have a goal to train for to stay motivated. I'd love to do it too but maybe not this year.

    1. You'll still be incapacitated from your ultra where you break your land speed record set at FA50!

  4. You say 34 K in Punta Cana like it's a bad thing. PUNTA CANA!!! Running on the beach. Sigh.

    1. Ugh - heat. Me and heat are not friends. I'll likely do a few 5-10ks along the beach but I'll probably run my 34 the week before I go. Maybe the day before I go and then going will be recovery and the start of my usual taper plan: full stop and pig out (and probably get sick)
