Write Stuff Wednesday: Nano Update - Week 1

It's hard to believe we are already one week into Nanowrimo!  Last week, I pondered whether I even have time to write a book this November.  In all honesty, I probably don't, but my idea is still growing in my mind and I started getting it all out.  I figure, it only takes me an hour and a bit to get 1800 words onto my computer and I can easily write that watching TV at I am trying my best.

What does my best look like?  Well, if you've been following the widget on the sidebar of this blog, you'll see it is looking a little, well...not good.

The Red means I didn't write at all those says.  the green says I got in the minimum number of words needed to complete if I wrote everyday (1667) and the Yellow and Orange mean I made an effort to write that day but didn't meet a word count goal.

Even so - at day 7, I am almost 10% of the way done and that is pretty good, given my commitments this month and two kids who want to spend their evenings "sneaking" instead of sleeping.   If I average 1800 words a day, I will still finish and that just means writing an extra paragraph or two each day.   I am also hoping to spend the holiday weekend writing as I recover from my back to back long runs!   That is always good for word count boosting so I may actually catch up by this time next week!

I am also really enjoying using Yarny to write this year. Aside from some technical issues on day one, it has been a breeze to write in and I love how it makes my book accessible anywhere.   I am backing up regularly just in case...I did lose a paragraph that first day...

I must say, with this being my third November doing Nano, that I am really enjoying some of the updates they made to their website for this year.   As you all know, I love me some stats and graphs to prove I'm doing something.   This is like a Garmin for my writing!!!!

So - I will keep plugging along and hope to make it across this finish line by November 30!  And, even if I don't, I will still have made a decent effort at getting myself to write more than blog posts!

Are you doing Nano this year?  How's it going for you?  Tell me about your book :)

  1. I've never heard of this before, but it's so cool. What a great way to inspire us to use our brain muscle. I need to do that every chance I get.
