Friday Reads: EnLIGHTened by Jessica Berger Gross
It isn't that this book is good or bad...it's just not very interesting.
Each chapter starts with a yoga posture and a long description of how to achieve it. The chapters also have a Yoga Sutra translated and explained.
Then she goes on to describe how that sutra shaped her journey.
In the end - she doesn't say as much, but she discovered the principle I advocate here when it comes to healthy journeys - FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU and DO IT! I can't see her journey working for me, but it might for someone else. I didn't like the tone throughout the book. I also didn't like the sheer number of typos scattered throughout. Nothing drives me to distraction faster than a typo (though I know my blog is full of them - ironic, no? You have no idea how many times I go back in to fix things...lol) I also find it humourous that on her own website - she has a typo in the title of this book...
I had hoped this might give me a launching point to incorporating more yogic principles into my own life, but I didn't get that at all. Instead, I felt as though the author really just wanted an additional therapist and that half of the story remained untold. She might have been better off writing a fiction book and working out the issues as her characters did.
Do I recommend it? not really, but read the description for yourself to decide if it is something you might enjoy. I felt it lacked a lot of colour.
