Friday Reads: EnLIGHTened by Jessica Berger Gross

In a nutshell - this is one yogi talking about how yoga healed her and her friends guided her to help her improve her life and lose 40lbs.

It isn't that this book is good or's just not very interesting.

Each chapter starts with a yoga posture and a long description of how to achieve it.   The chapters also have a Yoga Sutra translated and explained.

Then she goes on to describe how that sutra shaped her journey.

In the end - she doesn't say as much, but she discovered the principle I advocate here when it comes to healthy journeys - FIND WHAT WORKS FOR YOU and DO IT!   I can't see her journey working for me, but it might for someone else.   I didn't like the tone throughout the book.  I also didn't like the sheer number of typos scattered throughout.  Nothing drives me to distraction faster than a typo (though I know my blog is full of them - ironic, no? You have no idea how many times I go back in to fix  I also find it humourous that on her own website - she has a typo in the title of this book...

I had hoped this might give me a launching point to incorporating more yogic principles into my own life, but I didn't get that at all.  Instead, I felt as though the author really just wanted an additional therapist and that half of the story remained untold.  She might have been better off writing a fiction book and working out the issues as her characters did.

Do I recommend it?  not really, but read the description for yourself to decide if it is something you might enjoy.   I felt it lacked a lot of colour.
