Olympic Marathon - Womens (London 2012)

My alarm was set for bright and early...but good thing the PVR was also set.  I slept through my alarm and woke up at 4:45am...

So groggy me stumbled downstairs and got the coffee going...and then settled in for some sightseeing - of the marathon variety

Here's the women's Olympic Marathon from my view...and my twitter...

I remember the rain in London so clearly...after running in Footstock last year, I have a feeling what it was like for these ladies this morning on those rainy streets.

I totally am.  I need me some colourful shoes...

This was such a scenic course...so many twists and turns, though.  Almost made me dizzy watching it!

Buggie woke up hungry around 5:30 so we snuggled and watched the running.   I have a feeling this is something we'll be doing together A LOT in the years to come...who knows.  Maybe I have a future Olympian right here...

Sigh...and her baby is younger than my babies by a lot...

I don't doubt it happens.  There were just a couple of ladies who looked relieved to be "injured".

It was around this time that I got super antsy to see the finish so I fast forwarded.

And Tiki Gelana from Ethiopia takes the gold!

She really did...

Since Canada didn't have anyone qualify for the women's marathon, I was cheering for my two favourite American Gals - Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher.  They came in 10th and 11th respectively.  Shalane made a pretty good shadow on the Africans for quite a ways after they took the lead, but there was no way she could keep up.  I'm really surprised the Russian came in third after watching the Kenyans and Ethiopians dominate the last half.

Next Sunday is the Men's marathon.  I'm not sure if we will be home at this point (might be taking the girlies on their first camping trip), but if we are - rest assured I'll have a recap for that as well...
