A Very Active Escape

Today I ran away from my kids!   Wow - did I ever need that!   A nice 6.5K with my Saturday runner girls and a fun coffee with a whole lot of my teammates from TNT.   It was fantastic.

After the coffee, me and one of the girls headed over to Telus Convention Centre to attend the Ultimate Health & Fitness Show.  It had a pretty cool description and, for the first year running, it wasn't half bad.  There was a wide variety of exhibitors and Sport Chek had organized something called a "Health Chek" where at select exhibitors, you could have different assessments done. If you completed at least 5 assessments, you could turn in your "report card" for a free gift (turns out it was a jump rope and a 20% off card to the GNC locations in Sport Chek stores).

We had assessments done on stride length, posture, flexibility & balance, spinal health, and functional fitness.  They were all fairly basic assessments and didn't really provide a great deal of useful information (these guys do, after all, want us to come to their actual businesses and pay for the services).  Some seemed really hokey, but others provided enough of a taste that I might actually consider visiting some of the professionals I spoke with.

Overall, I think the show will be a great one in future years - once it's had a chance to work out the newbie kinks :)

I didn't get home again until after 4pm...and I must say - I deserved that much of a day off!  However, after being bounced on for a good hour by my daughters I may already be ready for the next escape :)
